Preview books, movies, and music before you buy them.
Your public library can be a great resource for reducing your spending. Before you buy a bookwhether it's a best seller or a hard-to-find titleborrow it from the library first to decide if you really want it. The same goes for videocassettes, DVDs, and CDs that you can borrow free of charge.

Focus on value and function when deciding how much to spend.
You can spend between $3 and $15 to eat lunch at a restaurant, or you can spend $1.50 for lunch that you bring from home. Your homemade lunch is just as fillingand helps keep your wallet full, too.

Look for the extra benefits in your money-saving strategies.
